One of the men convicted of killing Massachusetts State Trooper George Hanna nearly 43 years ago had his first parole hearing Thursday. Hanna's family was there.Jose Colon qualified for the hearing because of a new state law that offers a second chance to young offenders.

A man who was convicted of beating and stabbing to death a woman and her disabled grandson was denied parole.

Releasing Jose Colon "would send a dangerous signal that the deliberate killing of a police officer is anything less than the most heinous of crimes,” Healey wrote in a letter to the state Parole Board.

CINCINNATI (WXIX) - A Price Hill woman has been granted parole after serving more than 40 years of her life sentence for killing her husband and burying his body in their backyard. Linda Couch was convicted in 1985 for the October 1984 murder of her husband, Walter Couch.

Prosecutors argued he continues to pose an unreasonable risk to public safety based on the severity of his crimes and his conduct while incarcerated.

Data show the slide is real, not just anecdotal. CalMatters found that the share of parole hearings that ended in a grant fell from about 39% in 2018 to roughly 35% across 2019 through 2021, then sank below 25% in 2025. According to CalMatters, that slump came even as California expanded who is eligible to seek parole in the first place.
