Americans are deeply skeptical of the Trump administration’s account of the fatal Border Patrol shooting of ICU nurse Alex Pretti, according to a new poll. A YouGov poll conducted on Jan. 25 shows that about half (48 percent) of respondents do not think the shooting of Pretti in Minneapolis on Saturday was justified.

The New York Times/Siena College poll, released Thursday, showed Trump with an overall approval rating of 40% and a disapproval rating of 56%.

Meanwhile, a majority — 56% of voters — think the country is headed in the wrong direction, while 44% believe it is on the right track.
